Drinking water treatment plants are essential for maintaining healthy drinking water. Ever wonder how these plants do this job? They use specialized machines and systems that come together to ensure the safety of drinking water. Let's take a deeper look into some of these machines and how they assist us!
The filtration system is one of the critical machine used in the water treatment plant. Water filtration systems are giant water filters that remove dirt, microbes, and other impurities from the water. This is extremely important as consuming contaminated or dirty water can cause severe illness.
These systems vary and use different mechanisms. Others involve trapping and eliminating the impurities using materials including sand, gravel or carbon. Other filter systems use a special membrane that allows only clean water to pass but traps dirt and germs. They all serve the same purpose, whether it be the type of filtration system: to ensure our water is safe and pure for consumption.
Types of Water PumpsDifferent types of water pumps are designed for different purposes. Some are giants and are used in large water treatment plants, while others are small and can be used at home or in smaller facilities. Water pumps, because they move the water, make sure that the water passes through the cleaning stages as quickly as possible.
Water treatment plants also contain another type of machine: dosing systems. Dosing systems use special chemicals that are added to water to eliminate unpleasant stuff to make the water fit for usage. For instance, chlorine can be added as a chemical if there are too many germs or bacteria in the water. Do you know why we put chlorine in water?
Another important machine in water treatment plants are the lamella clarifiers. These clarifiers separate impurities from the clean water helping in purification. They operate through a series of angled plates that allow the mud and impurities to fall to the bottom of a tank. Once the impurities settle, the water flows through the plates that trap the remaining dirt.
Because dosing systems add chemicals to the water to assist with treatment, dosing skids function in a similar way. But because dosing skids are portable, they are not quite the same as the rest. This also means that they are portable and can be relocated at will. This is especially useful for large treatment plants which require treatment in multiple locations.
